About

Kayla Joliat is a Boston  based artist with a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Moments in natural spaces captivate me. They affect me in how they are stored and later distorted as I recollect them. I compose my work by creating flattened abstract landscapes that layer my memories of places and experiences. Struggling with my insecurities in the unknown, I attempt to comfort myself through detail and repetition. I cover, hide, twist, layer, and partially obstruct the forms and marks I previously put down. Thus, my work visually represents the complex interaction of my observed external, and felt internal worlds.
